About Mark Lewis

My career began with a retail management position at Oddbins Wine Merchants in 1987, during which time I completed the 2-year Wine and Spirit Education Trust Diploma.

After gaining 3 valuable years of experience in shop management I moved to the fine wine department of Harrods Department Store in London and then into Grocery Purchasing.

In 1992 and as part of a young team I joined Harvey Nichols as Assistant Grocery Buyer and worked on the opening of the new 5th floor Foodmarket and specifically on the implementation of the Harvey Nichols Own Brand Food product range, which included the exclusive monochrome packaging and a large selection of branded grocery food lines.

 

I became Grocery Buying Controller with direct responsibility for purchasing branded groceries and continued to develop the Own Brand products…

During the next 10 years I became Grocery Buying Controller with direct responsibility for purchasing branded groceries and continued to develop the Own Brand products, Christmas Food and Wine Boxes and Food Export of Own Brand Grocery products to Japan, Singapore and Germany.

As a part of the Harvey Nichols management team, I was also instrumental in the new Food Market openings and the domestic store expansion program, in Leeds, Birmingham, Edinburgh and Manchester.

In 2003 and again as part of a young team I became the Brand Development Manager for Daylesford Organic and during the next 3 years developed an extensive range of organic Own Brand Food Products, working closely with the Daylesford farms, the in-house production team and other artisan organic food producers.

 

In 2006 I joined the American organic and natural food retailer, Whole Foods Market and worked on the development of 300 ‘Everyday Value’ Own Brand products, including grocery, dairy, non-food and wines and was part of a large team that opened the new Kensington store in London.

 

Today I’m known widely throughout the world in the Gourmet and Specialty Fine Food Market for my experience in Own Brand Development, Purchasing and Product Sourcing, and with each management role, I’ve built up a wealth of Food and Wine knowledge, Retail and Purchasing skills. Since 2010, Mark Lewis Food and Wine Ltd. has worked with retailers, wholesalers, and manufacturers, offering short or long term project services and support for each business.
